Straight out of NY, the 5 Boroughs– Neil Armstrong, Daddy Dog, Roli Rho, Do Boy, Vin Roc, Kuttin Kandi, and I.Emerge make up one of the illest DJ (and Filipino) crews of all-time they are… 5th Platoon. This year, 5P celebrates their 10 Year Anniversary with a shoe. Not just any shoe though. But a collaborative effort with the one and only Adidas and the brand UNDRCRWN. I have been a longtime fan of 5P since the late 90s when I watched a VHS (… yes I said VHS) of Vin Roc and Roli Rho. And then there’s Kuttin Kandi, who I sweared at the time was like the first female turntablist. Let’s not forget she also a profound poet/ spoken word artist.
Ok some sneakerheads and fans would figure 5P would go for more a “nostalgic” and “old school” Adidas feel (i.e. Superstars, Forums, Metro Attitudes, or Americanas), but the EQT Bball kicks aren’t bad. We’re talking 2008 after all. For this independent crew to get such mainstream honor (in the form of limited -edition footwear of course) is long overdue. Despite having a worldwide following, unfortunately they’ve never received mainstream status, or rather appreciation, in the Hip-Hop world. Am I right DJ enthusiasts? Don’t forget they’re celebrating 10 Years. Not many crews (let alone couples) can stay together past 5 years. Drop by 5P’s site and take a look at them Adidas.
